After coming off of his role as Billy Hope in Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw, Jake Gyllenhaal returns to work with the director for The Guilty. Writer Nic Pizzolatto, known for his work on True Detective, pens the screenplay. Inspired by Gustav Möller’s Danish thriller from 2018, Netflix remakes it.

The film’s best moments are when Baylor is on one emotionally charged call after another, as Pizzolatto’s screenplay slowly sprinkles in important details while ratcheting up the urgency of the situation.
