Facebook now allows group chats across Instagram and Messenger
Facebook said in a blogpost: “With this update, people will be able to start group chats between their Instagram and Messenger contacts.
The move brings the tech giant closer to its plans of one day merging the Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp apps.
“Within these cross-app group chats, you can continue to customize your chat experience with chat themes and custom reactions.
“Last year, we announced cross-app messaging between Messenger and Instagram. With this update, you’ll be able to start group chats between your Instagram and Messenger contacts”

That will also necessitate full encryption of Instagram and Messenger DMs, in line with WhatsApp’s security defaults, which looks set to be a bigger hill to climb for the company.

You may need to update your Messenger and Instagram apps to start using the new experience.
You’ll also need to opt-in for cross-app communication and so will the friends you want in your new group chat.
Facebook is also introducing a Watch Together feature on Instagram.
It will allow you to watch Instagram videos at the exact same time as your friends. The tech giant said: “To make it easier for you and your friends to bond, you can now watch your favorite content directly from your Instagram feed together with your friends.
“Just start a video chat within Instagram, scroll to the post you want to share then click on the share button and Watch Together!”
Facebook says it wants its new features to help make people feel more connected but it’s also keeping safety and privacy in mind.
You’ll still have message request folders on Facebook and Instagram for messages from people you’re not connected to.
